NON-PARAMETRIC SHAPE DESIGN METHOD OF FREE-FORM SHELLS USING MEMBRANE STRESSES PROJECTED ONTO HORIZONTAL PLANE

A method for shape design of free-form shells under self-weight is presented, without resorting to any parametric representations. The graph surface discretized into a polyhedral with quadrilateral mesh. Membrane stresses which satisfy the equilibrium in horizontal plane are given based on Pucher’s formulation, and equation vertical direction solved. Desirable distributions thrusts boundaries can easily be specified. Successive over-relaxation used solving formulation by finite-difference method. It shown numerical examples that various shapes generated.
